VISIT Easingwold- Yorkshire at its best

Galtres Centre Senior Club - Short Mat Bowls.

Names of Class Instructors - Audrey and Fred Wood.

Galtres Short Mat Bols Club

This class is held each Wednesday afternoon between 2.00pm - 4.00pm during the months September to March. Audrey and Fred have sixty years experience between them in both Short Mat and Lawn Green Bowls.

They have played for North Yorkshire for a period of eight years and have also represented North Yorkshire in the National finals over a five-year period in various disciplines.

The class takes on the shape of a Bowling Club where mature people enjoy each others company whilst playing the game of Short Mat Bowls. Tuition for beginners is free and available at all times from Audrey and Fred and there are no age restrictions applied to this class.

People who are interested in taking up the game need only to contact Audrey and Fred who are available almost every Wednesday afternoon at the Galtres Centre (September to March) where they will receive a friendly welcome and be able to watch the game being played by people who "just came along to find out" in the weeks and months before.

This class costs just £2.00 per session and tea and biscuits are provided half way through!

It's a fact

Easingwold once had the shortest railway line in England (2.51 miles) but was closed in the 1950’s. The former Station Hotel still stands (now a private house) but the lines have long gone, The name lives on in the nearby “Station Court” housing estate
