The Foss Walk Path

The excellent Foss Walk Guidebook - and only £1.95 - courtesy of the copyright holders

The Foss Walk is our local Long Distance Footpath, starting from the centre of York, heading north-east out of the City, past the Rowntrees (now Nestle of course) Chocolate factory, through the villages of Strensall, Sherrif Hutton, Farlington, Crayke, before arriving at its source, just beyond the beautiful and tranquil Pond Head reservoir in Yearsley Forest

The walk is easy underfoot and at a total length of 28.5 miles, is best done in a two day (a weekend?) strech where you can stop often and look around you to see the lovely countryside.

After Pond Head, the path heads south east towards Easingwold and ends with a flourish in our historic Market Square.

The lavishly illustrated book has very good maps and detailed notes (see an extract below) and is very good value for money indeed! Copies are available at Bijou, a giftshop, bookshop, artshop, gallery and specialist chocolatier all rolled into one.

Bijou can be found a few yards down the road from us and is open from 9 - 5 Monday - Saturday.
